TURFMAINTENANCE
YOUR TURF LOOKS BEAUTIFUL, NOW WHAT?
GENERALMAINTENENCE
To take root and produce the lush green lawn you were hoping for, fresh sod needs a fine balance of four things: sunlight, water, air and nutrients.
SUNLIGHT
• Each variety of sod has it’s own sun and shade requirements. All turf varieties thrive in full sun, but none will survive full shade.
WATER
• The quality of the soil you install or sprig your sod into can affect its water absorption.
• Sandy soil drains fast; therefore, your sod will need more water to maintain its rich color.
• Overwatering puts your new sod at risk of fungus and disease.
AIR
• The turf we see gets plenty of air; it’s the root’s ability to breath you should be worried about.
• Compacted soil containing clay makes it hard for air and water to get to the roots and create a healthy, lush yard.
NUTRIENTS
• Properly prepared soil may not require additional fertilizer.
• Slow-release, granular fertilizers are the best for sod, because they feed your lawn over time. This mitigates the amount of excess fertilizer that leeches into subsurface soil and water sources.
• Each variety of sod has its own unique nutrient requirements.
NOTE ON TRIMMING
Maintaining a healthy lawn includes frequent trimmings. Most varieties of Florida sod are best kept between 2”-3” long. Trimming your lawn not only produces and intoxicating scent, but helps your grass thrive by staving off an abundance of insects and small animals.
